Local attractions


There is a post office and a petrol station in Strachur which both have general stores. The nearest supermarkets and shops are a 30 minute drive to Dunoon and 40 minute drive to Inveraray. 


Wilding Bee nature reserve is located close to some very good restaurants all along the shores of Loch Fyne. The Inver restaurant serves an a la carte dinner and lunch in a beautiful location overlooking old castle Lachlan. The Oyster Catcher which is a little further along the shores of loch fyne at Otters ferry specialises in local fresh seafood. It has a large outside sitting area where you can enjoy their delicious food taking in the spectacular scenery, or sit inside in a friendly relaxed atmosphere by a log burner. Creggans Inn at Strachur  has an a la carte menu with seasonal and local produce and bar.  Loch Fyne Oyster bar and deli is a short drive along loch fyne also specialising in freshly caught seafood. Just around the corner from Loch Fyne Oyster bar is Fyne Ales, a family run business set on a farm serving a wide variety of their selection of ales. There is a taxi service at Strachur.

Walks and wildlife 

Wilding Bee is located by the cowal way and there are numerous forest walks and neolithic sites within the local area. There is also an abundance of bird life, red deer, pine martins, red squirrels and sometimes seals can be seen in loch Fyne. There are some lovely walks at old Lachlan castle overlooking loch fyne. Ben More botanic gardens and Ardkinglas woodland garden is also a short drive from the nature reserve.


Colintraive has a lovely Inn and bar which serves food where you can get a ferry to Isle of Bute.

Portavadie has a gym and spa and a ferry service to Mull of Kintyre.

Ben Nevis and Glen Coe

A day out to explore Ben Nevis and Glen Coe, take a drive through the mountains and experience the beautiful dramatic scenery of the highlands. Kilchurn castle is a short drive from wilding bee reserve.
